Despite a spirited performance and strong moments throughout, the boys’ hard work wasn’t rewarded with the much needed 3 points to wrap up the round in style.

Controversial Call Changes the Game: In the 84th minute, centre referee Edson Chagala awarded a highly questionable penalty to the home team a decision that shattered our hopes of snatching a point or more.

A disappointing and biased call from Eddson Chagala that changed the course of the match entirely.

It was a game of two halves
Karonga United dominated ball possession in the first half while Creck Sporting does otherwise, closing down our options and applying pressure across the pitch.

However, we had our moments as George Chaomba, Kondwani Chilembwe and Patrick Mupanzi came close with promising chances, threatening to break the deadlock.

Goalkeeper Emmance Nyirenda had a grand game, pulling off brilliant saves and denying Karonga’s Patrick Phiri’s attempts on several occasions. He stood tall between the posts and commanded his area well.

Coach Eliya Kananji made tactical changes, introducing Kondwani Chilembwe, Misheck Bottoman, Hassan Hussein, and Bayo Fatayo.

Unfortunately, Fatayo and Miracle Gabeya were shown red cards for questioning the referee’s controversial decisions an incident that raises serious questions about officiating standards.

Despite being two man down, the substitutions brought life into our attack. Chilembwe and Hussein nearly equalized, both hitting the post in the dying moments of the half. Frank Phiri also came on to add energy after Ademola Ajibola was substituted.

Head Coach Eliya Kananji praised the boys for their overall performance throughout the first round, highlighting the growth and determination shown, and has promised further improvements during the break.

The team returns to its Lilongwe base with 18 points from 15 games currently sitting 9th on the table.

Repositioning is expected as the league continues with other teams completing their matches.
