CRECK Sporting Club face a stern test this Sunday we host Songwe Border United at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji, in a must-win fixture that comes with mounting pressure.

Interim head coach Harry Saidi confirmed on Friday during the pre-match media briefing that three key players captain Hadji Wali, Nigerian midfielder Bayo Fatayo, and forward Gift Kadawati will miss the tie due to injuries.

The absence of the influential trio adds a significant challenge to Saidi’s second game in charge since stepping in for the suspended Joseph Kamwendo, assistant coach Abel Mkandawire, and striker trainer Chiukepo Msowoya.

“Our preparations have gone well, but the injuries have affected our efficiency. However, we are working hard to adapt and ensure the performance remains solid.” Saidi admitted

Saidi oversaw CRECK’s goalless draw against Kamuzu Barracks in midweek a match where the team showed promise but failed to convert chances.

Despite the frustrations, the interim coach drew encouragement from the overall display and is optimistic heading into their first-ever top-flight meeting with Songwe Border United, who were promoted this season.

“There are positives from the KB game. We created chances and that’s something to build on,” he said. “This week we’ve focused on finishing it’s an area that needs improvement. I believe the boys will step up on Sunday.”

CRECK head into the clash with five points from six matches and are desperate for a second win to lift themselves further up the log.

The attacking department remains a concern, and Saidi emphasized the need for sharper instincts in front of goal.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done, especially with our strikers,” he acknowledged. “We need to start scoring goals if we want to win games.”

In a bid to add fresh legs, Saidi has included midfielder Tathedwa Willard and defender Chris Lwemba in the matchday squad. Both are yet to make a league appearance this season and could be key in this match against Songwe.

The visitors arrive in Mchinji on the back of a poor run just one point from six games and a heavy 4-1 defeat to Silver Strikers in their last outing. Their fragile form gives CRECK an opportunity, but Saidi has warned against complacency.

He has also made a rallying call to the fans.“We encourage the supporters to come in numbers. We are going to give everything so that they go home happy.”
