Creck Sporting played out a goalless draw against Civil Service United on Saturday afternoon, earning one point from a possible six in our two meetings this season.
The team struggled for consistency in attack, failing to capitalize on several early chances within the first fifteen minutes. Despite sustained efforts, we could not break the deadlock in the first half.
Coach Eliya Kananji made several substitutions, introducing Hassan Hussein, Gift Kadawati, Misheck Bottoman, Stain Patrick, and finally Hadji Wali.
Wali last featured in April this year before being sidelined by injury. He was later handed a suspension by the Football Association of Malawi for misconduct during our Airtel Top 8 second-leg clash against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.
The team showed solid defensive organization and impressive ball distribution from the back to the midfield, but converting opportunities proved difficult against Civil’s goalkeeper.
Both teams finished the match without a shot on target. In the second half, George Chaomba had a one-on-one chance with Rahman John, which was ultimately blocked by John Dambuleni.
Patrick Macheso, who joined us on loan from Silver Strikers, was handed a straight start in the eleven, operating deep to push for an opener. He showcased his experience and skill, with coach Eliya Kananji noting that Macheso will adapt well to the team’s style of play, though he still needs more game time to reach full sharpness.
Coach Kananji further expressed dissatisfaction with the performance, citing a lack of confidence among the strikers:
“We still have to work more and more on our striking force. All the chances were wasted due to lack of confidence, but I know they will improve,” he said.
However, he acknowledged that earning a point against Civil in the return leg of the second round was a positive step and motivates the team to work harder, especially in attack.
Frank Phiri’s commanding performance in midfield earned him the Player of the Match award. He dominated the engine room, shielding the defense and disrupting Civil’s attacks effectively.
With this point, Creck Sporting has climbed from 11th to 10th on the standings, now with 19 points from 16 games.
The team now shifts focus to another TNM Super League clash, traveling to the southern region to face Mighty Wanderers in a midweek fixture on Wednesday at Kamuzu Stadium, Blantyre.
